The UFC rivalry between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones is far from over! Even after their epic battles in the Octagon and a shared coaching stint on a reality TV show, the tension remains palpable. Cormier has finally responded to Jones's recent, harsh words, and the details are as captivating as their fight nights.
Their careers will forever be intertwined, marked by two legendary clashes where Jones emerged victorious. Their rivalry was fueled by heated moments, including a memorable media day brawl. Now, the feud has reignited on the set of ALF Reality 3, a reality series filmed in Thailand, where they coached against each other, training up-and-coming MMA fighters.
But here's where it gets controversial... Despite Jones previously expressing a desire for a truce with Cormier, he has since changed his tune, directing some very personal insults towards his former rival, criticizing Cormier's behavior during the show.
Cormier, in an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, addressed Jones's comments head-on. He stated that while they were cordial on set, he has no interest in a friendship. Cormier pointed out the history of their animosity, including personal insults and accusations of cheating. He made it clear that he doesn't need to be friends with Jones, even if they can work together professionally.
"I don’t have to let him off the hook or be his friend," Cormier stated. "You don’t need to have fairy tale endings to everything in life. Life ain’t fair.”
Jones, who announced his retirement last summer, has hinted at a potential comeback. Cormier, who retired in 2020 and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2022, seems content with his post-fighting life.
What do you think? Do you believe that professional respect is enough, or should rivals strive for friendship? Let me know in the comments!
