Camille Robinson, the Member of Parliament representing Trincity and Maloney, has expressed her deep concern over the ongoing sanitation crisis. She describes the situation at Maloney Gardens as utterly unacceptable—seriously alarming and becoming an increasing danger to the community's health. Robinson-Regis has actively confronted the responsible authorities about the issue, demanding swift action to clean up the area and restore proper sanitation standards.
In a public statement issued on January 19, Robinson highlighted how the situation, particularly in the parking areas near apartment unit 21, has deteriorated significantly. Piles of uncollected garbage now line the area, creating unsanitary conditions accompanied by a foul, putrid smell that permeates the vicinity. Such conditions are more than just an eyesore—they threaten the health of residents, especially children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health issues. No community should be forced to live amidst such neglect.
Robinson-Regis reports having formally brought up this critical matter with the minister responsible for sanitation. Additionally, Councillor Stephan Wattley has also engaged with the relevant agencies to find a solution. Both have underscored that waste collection and cleaning are not optional extras but essential responsibilities that must be fulfilled promptly.
The MP emphasized that the cleanup effort must happen urgently, and she’s demanded a definitive timeline for when residents can expect improvement. She also assured the community that she will keep residents informed once any responses or updates are received. Recognizing the frustration among residents, Robinson-Regis has made it clear that the current situation cannot be tolerated any longer.
In the meantime, she has called on residents to report specific problem areas directly to her constituency office. This way, she can escalate these issues quickly and effectively. She also extended her thanks to sanitation workers from the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation who stepped in to assist when large quantities of garbage were left behind. However, she stressed that the ultimate responsibility for sanitation lies with the relevant authorities, not just with the local workers.
