The Trash Pandas have announced Joe Kruzel as their new manager, a seasoned baseball coach with an extensive background in player development. With over 30 years of experience, Kruzel is poised to make his mark in Rocket City. This appointment marks a significant shift in the team's leadership, as Kruzel becomes the third manager in the franchise's history.
Kruzel's journey to Huntsville is noteworthy. He spent the last four seasons as the Los Angeles Angels' field coordinator, overseeing player growth and maintaining on-field standards throughout the minor league system. This role has equipped him with the expertise to nurture young talent, a crucial aspect of the Trash Pandas' vision.
"I'm thrilled to return to the dugout," Kruzel expressed. "My mission is twofold: to facilitate player development and to instill a winning mentality in Rocket City. Kruzel's managerial prowess is backed by nine seasons of experience, including eight years in affiliated baseball, where his teams achieved a remarkable 473-472 record. His most recent managerial role was with the Double A Springfield in the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 2019. Prior to that, he spent 13 seasons with the Cardinals, serving as both a manager and hitting coach.
Kruzel's impact on the game has been recognized with inductions into the Toledo City Athletic League Hall of Fame and the Toledo Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame. He has also led teams to consistent success, including five straight winning seasons with the State College Spikes and consecutive postseason appearances in Peoria.
The Trash Pandas' managerial lineage is short but significant, starting with Jay Bell in 2021 and continuing with Andy Schatzley from 2022 to 2025. Schatzley's promotion to infield coach with the Los Angeles Angels paved the way for Kruzel's appointment.
