Bold statement: what began as a routine race revealed the fragility of nerve-wracking moments behind the scenes of a racing weekend. And this is the part most people miss: a young driver faced not just the thrill of a Florida street course, but also immediate challenges that tested preparation, resilience, and team strategy.
Tyler Reif, driving the No. 42 Chevrolet for Niece Motorsports, was taken to a regional medical facility after Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in St. Petersburg, according to NASCAR and the team’s post-race update.
Reif wound up finishing 16th in the first-ever Florida street race on the circuit, despite a pre-race electrical issue during the parade laps and damage to the right rear sustained during the event.
Niece Motorsports has named the 18-year-old Henderson, Nevada native as the primary driver for the organization’s flagship entry for the 2026 season. Reif brings three ARCA Menards Series West victories and previously earned a win in a combined ARCA Menards Series race at Phoenix Raceway in 2023.
